What exactly is the Tankdoc 2K internal tank coating?
The Tankdoc 2K internal tank coating is a high quality epoxy resin system consisting of resin and hardener. After mixing, it forms a durable protective layer inside the tank and, when applied correctly, is resistant to common fuels such as petrol, E5, E10 and diesel.
Which colours is the internal tank coating available in?
Light grey, reddish brown, black.
Which container sizes are available?
- 225 g – approx. 9 L
- 375 g – approx. 15 L
- 675 g – approx. 45 L
- 1250 g – approx. 80 L
What mixing ratio applies?
4:1 (resin : hardener).
Can the viscosity be adjusted?
Yes, with 2K thinner.
🔧 Application & Processing
How do I prepare the tank properly?
The tank must be clean, grease free, rust free and completely dry. Careful preparation is the most important requirement for a durable coating.
How do I apply the internal tank coating correctly?
The mixed coating is poured into the tank, distributed evenly by slowly rotating it and excess material is then poured out.
Do I need a second coat?
Yes, a second coat is generally recommended in order to achieve an even and permanently durable coating.
How long does drying take?
- dust dry after approx. 2 to 4 hours
- ready for assembly after approx. 12 hours
- fully resistant and fuel resistant after approx. 8 to 10 days
The actual drying time may vary depending on temperature, humidity and component.
⚠️ Problems & Special Cases
Why do tanks rust faster today?
Modern fuels with an ethanol content attract moisture. This significantly increases the risk of rust forming inside the tank, especially during longer periods of inactivity.
Can I seal over an old coating?
No. Old coatings must be completely removed so that the new seal can adhere reliably.
My tank is leaking – will the coating help?
Small pores or sweating areas can under certain circumstances be sealed. In the case of larger damage, cracks or perforation, however, proper repair is required first.
Yellow residue after derusting?
A slight yellowish residue after derusting is harmless in many cases. What is important is that the tank is then rinsed thoroughly, dried completely and treated properly afterwards.
